After negotiation with the Conservative government, your local Conservative Council has secured approval for Harrow’s bid for a new special school from the Department for Education.
The school will be built on at 265 The Ridgeway, which was the site formerly used by the Plymouth Brethren. Previously there have been attempts to build large flat blocks on this location, so the news that a new special school will be built on the site has been welcomed by local residents.
The new special school will deliver 292 school places for Harrow children and young people who have severe learning difficulties.
The school will support children aged 4 up to post 16. This means that children will be supported at the same location from primary school up to and including sixth form.
Harrow Conservatives are proud to have secured this increase in capacity as well as improving the support available to local special needs to children.
Leader of the Council, Cllr Paul Osborn, said:
We’ve been working towards this moment for many years – it's truly amazing news for our borough. This decision enables us to deliver something truly life-changing - a great facility that will benefit kids and young people in Harrow for decades to come.
It is worth noting that while Harrow Labour talked a lot about increase special needs education when they run the Council prior to May 2022, they achieved very little. The same can be said for Harrow West Labour MP Gareth Thomas who, despite running publicity campaigns for a new special needs school in Harrow, was not involved at all in this achievement.
