Tonight, Conservative Councillors agreed a budget which will invest in the services that matters most to Harrow residents.
Against a tough financial backdrop, Harrow’s Conservative Council has managed to increase funding to tackle potholes, crackdown on fly tippers and increase street cleaning.
This year’s budget delivers a permanent £270,000 increase to the street cleaning budget. This will increase the frequency of street cleaning as well as introducing area based teams, which will mean we can clear litter hotspots more quickly and the teams will get to know their patch well.
Our budget also allocates a further £200,000 to the Council’s enforcement officers, giving them more resources to investigate and hunt down perpetrators of fly-tipping. This will mean that we can punish those who blight our borough with fly-tipping and recover the costs of clearing fly-tips through large fines issued to offenders.
The Council is acquiring a ‘Pothole Pro’ machine from JCB. This machine specialises in repairing potholes quickly and at a lower cost than traditional methods. We have trialled this new technology in parts of the borough, where it has made a significant improvement to the road surface.
Harrow’s Conservative Council will continue to put residents first, enhancing services that matter most to local people and making our neighbourhoods even better places to live, while ensuring the Council remains financially sound.
