Data released by the government shows that the number of Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) fines issued for fly-tipping since Harrow Conservatives gained control of the Council has surged.
During the last year of the previous Labour administration at Harrow Council, they only issued 124 FPNs for fly-tipping.
In comparison, after one year of the current Conservative leadership 1,137 FPNs were issued to fly-tippers. This is an increase of over 800%.
As a deterrent to fly-tippers, we recently increased the fine for fly-tipping from £400 to £1,000. It is important that those who ruin our borough by illegally dumping rubbish are made to pay.
Since coming to power, Harrow Conservatives have championed operations called ‘weeks of action’ and ‘days of action’. These are operations where the Council’s various enforcement teams work together with the police and other stakeholders to intensively focus on one neighbourhood to deal with various issues.
As part of these operations, the Council targets fly-tippers, both residential and commercial, and issues FPNs accordingly. These events have been very successful.
There is still more work to be done and we will continue on our mission to crackdown on those individuals who dump rubbish in our borough.
