At the May Cabinet meeting Leader of Harrow Conservatives, Cllr Paul Osborn, challenged the Council’s Labour leadership on their plans for a new Civic Centre.
If implemented, Harrow Council and its services would be broken up and spread out across several sites. Labour plan to build the new Civic Centre in Wealdstone for £22 million, which will only host meetings and Councillors’ offices. Meanwhile, most Council staff will be based in the Forward Drive depot site, which has cost taxpayers £44 million to build.
So called ancillary services, such as homelessness, social care and the registry services will not be based at either of these locations. Shockingly the Council has yet to identify where it will base these vital services but has announced a cost of £500,000 to base them at these yet to be identified locations.
The current regeneration proposals are a flawed vanity project for Harrow Labour Party which will cost the local taxpayer close to £70 million. Labour's previous regeneration attempt failed miserably and resulted in £7 million being written off. We need a Conservative Council with fresh ideas to stop this expensive waste of time.
