At the November meeting of Harrow Council, Conservative Councillors proposed a motion to endorse the governments new Voter ID rules, which means that voters will have to produce a photo ID when going to a Polling Station.
Our democracy is a fundamental part of our free and choice-based society which means there needs to be robust safeguards to protect against fraud. Voter ID does just that, meaning that elections staff can verify that someone is who they say they are.

Sadly, Harrow’s Labour Councillors chose to play petty party politics and criticised the introduction of Voter ID, claiming that it disadvantaged the less well off from voting.
This is false as when the new Voter ID rules were introduced, Council’s were also told that they must provide a free Voter Authority Certificate to anyone who does not possess another form of photo ID.

Conservatives, both locally and nationally, believe in the security of our democratic process and so protecting elections from Voter Fraud by introducing Voter ID is the correct policy.
