Eight months on from gaining control of Harrow Council, the new Conservative leadership are still clearing up Labour's mess.
At a January Cabinet meeting, Conservative Councillors decided to cancel Labour's unaffordable Kodak-Wealdstone footbridge project.
The £7.4 million vanity project was months behind schedule and the additional costs of delivering the scheme were set to spiral out of control. Safety concerns were also raised about the risk of anti-social behaviour due to the poor design of the bridge.
Unbelievably, the former Labour leadership planned to put the bridge in a location where the land didn't even belong to the Council! This meant that the Council would have had to issue compulsory purchase orders to acquire the land, at great cost to the Harrow taxpayer.
The Council is now in the process of reallocating the £7.4 million government grant to fund improvements to Harrow Town Centre. Strangely, this was opposed by a Labour Councillor who represents the Town Centre area!
