For decades, residents using the Harrow Arts Centre's (HAC) facilities in Hatch End have been able to use the Morrisons/Safeways car park for free if all spaces at HAC are taken.
Now this arrangement is under threat as Morrisons are preparing to charge users for staying in the car park.
This impacts users of the Arts Centre, Elliott Hall Medical Centre, Hatch End Swimming Pool, Hatch End Playing Fields, U3A (University of the Third Age), Hatch End Horticultural Society, Harrow Bee Keepers and many others too. They would face the risk of charges parking in Morrisons if the HAC car park is full.
Last year Morrisons put parking restriction signs up, however after fury and backlash from local residents, Morrisons agreed to not enforce parking restrictions and to confer with the London Borough of Harrow and user groups on a mechanism to ensure audiences and participants to the HAC are not denied access to a full programme.
Now Morrisons are planning to renege on this goodwill and erect more signs and an ANPR camera, getting their parking system ready to turn on and start charging users.
This petition calls on Morrisons to halt any and all plans to charge users for the car park, ensuring residents and users of the HAC can continue to use the site and arrangements that have existed long before Morrisons came to Hatch End.
